The last two B-85A Hustlers, of the 305th Bombardment Wing, Grissom AFB, IN were withdrawn from SAC and flown to Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.

USAF bombers renewed their attacks on North Vietnam, the first since the ceasefire had been announced by President Johnson the previous November.
  18 March In conjunction with a US/South Vietnamese thrust into Cambodia to engage North Vietnamese forces there, B-52s began a series of night sorties against Cambodian targets and in the following two months flew 4,308 sorties and dropped 120,528 tons of bombs.
  1 June The C-5A Galaxy became operational with MAC at Scott AFB, VA and took its place alongside the C-141A StarLifter on supply flights to Europe and Southeast Asia.
  8 July A contract was awarded to Boeing to develop and integrate an airborne warning and control system (AWACS) into the Boeing 707-320B airframe.
  6 august
Spain and the US signed a renewal of their mutual defence agreement, allowing the US continued use of air bases in Spain. In return, Spain would receive considerable military equipment to modernise its armed forces.
